WHAT IS TRUTH ?
SEPT 25, 1995
FEAST OF TRUMPETS
LUSK, WYOMING
INTRO: Pilate said, "What is Truth?" John 18:38.
Jesus' statement prior to Pilate's was, "You say that I am a king. To this
end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear
witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the TRUTH hears my voice."
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the
life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (KJV)
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his
glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of
grace and truth. (KJV) John 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be
made manifest, that they are wrought in God. (KJV)
John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall
worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh
such to worship him. (KJV)
Strong's # 225 aletheia (al-ay'-thi-a);
from 227; truth:
KJV-- true, X truly, truth, verity. (DIC)
TRUE, TRULY, TRUTH
aletheia ^225^, "truth," is used (a) objectively, signifying "the reality
lying at the basis of an appearance; the manifested, veritable essence of a
matter" (Cremer), e. g., <Rom. 9:1; 2 Cor. 11:10>; especially of Christian
doctrine, e. g., <Gal. 2:5>, where "the truth of the Gospel" denotes the
"true" teaching of the Gospel, in contrast to perversions of it; <Rom. 1:25>,
where "the truth of God" may be "the truth concerning God" or "God whose
existence is a verity"; but in <Rom. 15:8> "the truth of God" is indicative
of His faithfulness in the fulfillment of His promises as exhibited in
Christ; the word has an absolute force in <John 14:6; 17:17; 18:37,38>; in
<Eph. 4:21>, where the RV, "even as truth is in Jesus," gives the correct
rendering, the meaning is not merely ethical "truth," but "truth" in all its
fullness and scope, as embodied in Him; He was the perfect expression of the
truth; this is virtually equivalent to His statement in <John 14:6>; (b)
subjectively, "truthfulness," "truth," not merely verbal, but sincerity and
integrity of character, <John 8:44; 3 John 3>, RV; (C) in phrases, e. g., "in
truth" (epi, "on the basis of"), <Mark 12:14; Luke 20:21>; with en, "in," <2
Cor. 6:7; Col. 1:6; 1 Tim. 2:7>, RV (KJV, "in... verity"), <1 John 3:18; 2
John 1,3, 4>.

such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.
(KJV)

thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. (KJV)

the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD. (KJV)
Psalms 119:30 I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid
before me. (KJV)
Psalms 119:151 Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are truth.

(KJV)
S.P.S. Today we're going to see that the TRUTH of GOD is revelatory in our
lives and through the seven annual festivals He pictures His master plan for
His family.
Through a seven step process, today, we're going to take a look at WHAT IS
TRUTH.
BODY: Without TRUTH man is lost. Without Jesus Christ in all of our lives we
are nothing at all. We lack direction, purpose for being and commitment in
life.
Jesus Christ is the revelator. He is TRUTH ! (John 14:6)
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no
man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (KJV)
IT IS NOT IN NUMBERS, OR MONEY, OR IN OUR STRENGTH, BUT IN THE SPIRIT...THAT THE WORK OF GOD WILL BE DONE...THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH.
Zech 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word
of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by
power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. (KJV)
POINT # 1. WHAT DOES TRUTH MEAN TO YOU?
Matt. 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and
all these things shall be added unto you. (KJV)
Do you SEEK TRUTH? As you seeking the Kingdom of God?
Deut 4:29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find
him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
(KJV)
1 Chr 16:11 Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually. (KJV)
1 Chr 28:9 And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and
serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the
LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations
of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if
thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. (KJV)
2 Chr 15:2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa,
and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with
him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye
forsake him, he will forsake you. (KJV)
Read the story of Asa...Israel sought the God of their fathers...and he gave
them rest (v.15) round about.
No matter what generation lives upon the earth, it is a responsibility we all
have...to seek God and put Him first in everything, His TRUTH, His way in our
lives.
2 Chr 34:1-3 1 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he
reigned in Jerusalem one and thirty years.
2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and
walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to
the right hand, nor to the left.
3 For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young,
he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the
twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high
places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten
images. (KJV)
POINT #2.) TRUTH IS NEVER OLD!
During this age of so-called enlightenment and SUPPOSED "NEW TRUTH" we find an
amazing fact: TRUTH IS NEVER OLD!
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you
free. (KJV)
TRUTH IS OBTAINED from Jesus Christ.
John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue
in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; (KJV)
Verse :32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
(KJV)
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man
cometh unto the Father, but by me. (KJV)
Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. (KJV)
Mal 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not
consumed. (KJV)
POINT # 3.) The TRUTH OF GOD SANCTIFIES...SETS ONE APART...FOR HOLY PURPOSE.
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. (KJV)
John 17:19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be
sanctified through the truth. (KJV)
1 Thes 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your
whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the
coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (KJV)
Heb 13:12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own
blood, suffered without the gate. (KJV)
POINT # 4.) THE TRUE GOD, THE CREATOR GOD IS REVEALED THROUGH TRUTH.
Rom. 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all
ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in
unrighteousness; (KJV)
(From here to 3:20 is God's indictment of the world, showing why man needs the
righteousness of God.)
"HOLD"...literally, hold down or suppress. Man is condemned because truth was
given to him (vv. 19-20) and because he by his actions rejected it (vv.
21-32).
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are
clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his
eternal power and Godhead; SO THEY ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE: (KJV)
Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God,
neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and
their foolish heart was darkened. (KJV)
"THEY ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE..." The things that are made (creation) reveal to
all men the POWER AND AUTHORITY OF GOD, His divinity... the true God, so that the
rejection of this truth makes a man without excuse before God.
POINT # 5.) THE TRUTH GIVES ACCESS TO CHRIST.
John 18:37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus
answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born,
and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear
witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my
voice. (KJV)
1 John 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of
God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the
spirit of error. (KJV)
Gal 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey
the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set
forth, crucified among you? (KJV)
Paul was admonishing the Galatians to hold fast to THE TRUTH...not to give in
not to be hindered...
Paul's encouragement...
Gal 5:7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the
truth? (KJV)
Gal 4:16 Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
(KJV)
Often our closest friends in the Churches of God have misconceptions about
us...we've become the enemy, because we have stood for THE TRUTH OF GOD and
the REAL GOSPEL.
2 Thes 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren
beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen
you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief
of the truth: (KJV)
POINT # 6.) SALVATION COMES BY SANCTIFICATION OF THE SPIRIT AND BELIEF OF THE TRUTH.
2 Thes 2:10-15 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that
perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that
they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion,
that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth,
but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you,
brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the
beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of
the Spirit and belief of the truth:
14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of
the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions
which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
(KJV)
1 John 4:1-6 1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits
whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone
out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that
confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is
come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of
antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even
now already is it in the world.
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them:
because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the
world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and
the world heareth them.
6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not
of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and
the spirit of error. (KJV)
1 John 5:6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by
water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that
beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. (KJV)
POINT # 7.) WALK IN THE TRUTH...BE A FELLOWHELPER TO THE TRUTH.
2 John 1 The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the
truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
(KJV)
2 John 2 For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for
ever. (KJV)
2 John 3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from
the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
(KJV)
2 John 4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth,
as we have received a commandment from the Father. (KJV)
3 John 3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the
truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. (KJV)
3 John 8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers
to the truth. (KJV)
CONC: Live and breathe THE TRUTH in your life. Hold THE TRUTH foremost in
your heart, mind and soul...It is your life...not only now, but in the world
to come.
1 John 3:18-19 18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in
tongue; but in deed and in truth.
19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall
assure our hearts before him. (KJV)
